Searching is easy: all you need to do is type the words that you are looking for, which the Search Engines call “keywords” and Google brings back results that it hopes you will find helpful. If you have Google Instant enabled, the will appear as you start typing.
You can find what you are looking for most of the time with general keywords. I found several different ways from Google to better find what you are looking for. I am going to use parentheses to show a single search keyword query, so (up and down) is one search term, while (up) and (down) are two separate queries. Keep in mind that every word matters in a search, all words that are used in the search box can be used to bring back results. Typically punctuation is ignored example: @#$%^&*()+][\ and other non-alphanumeric characters.
Searching made simple
- Keep it simple. If you want to find a company, just input their name into the search box. If you are looking for a used car, just try typing used cars and the or zip code where you live. You don’t have to be very specific for that can bring back results that you weren’t looking for, keeping it simple is always your best bet for Google always wants the search to be as simple as possible.
- Think about the actual keyword you are looking for. I know we would like to think that there is a little magical leprechaun sitting in your browser that is going to give you the exact answer you are looking for, but that is not the case, Google is a software program made up of thousands of algorithms to help find the most like result that you need. For example, instead of typing (my car is broken), type (auto mechanic), because that is the keyword phrase that would be used on a webpage from in the automotive industry. The keyword search (in what state was George Washington born in) is very specific, but the web page that gives the answer may not have those keywords in that order. Instead us the keyword search (George Washington’s birthplace), because this is probably what content would be on web page that has the best answer.
- Keep the keyword phrase as short as possible. The goal of each keyword in a search query is to find what you are looking for. Because all words in every language are used on websites all over the globe, each additional keyword will limit how many results are givien after your search. The purpose of doing a general search first may bring back results that can potentially help you further your online investigation for what you are looking for. Let’s say you do a search for (Raystown Lake Cabins) is a simple way of doing a search instead of (cabins for rent near Raystown Lake)
